Rental Policy

These are the rules for renting gear through Rentl. Please read before submitting a request.

1. Eligibility

You must have a registered account to view pricing, check availability, and submit a rental request.

Renters under 18 can use the platform — the request form includes a short Responsible Use Agreement and asks for a parent/guardian contact for renters who check "I am under 18 years old."

2. How Booking Works

Submitting a rental request is not a confirmed booking. Every request is reviewed manually and marked Approved or Rejected — you'll get an email either way.

Approval depends on item availability, completeness of your request, and whether the requested dates conflict with an existing booking.

3. Rental Period

The minimum rental period is 1 day. A "day" is measured by calendar date — picking up Friday and returning Sunday counts as 3 days, regardless of the exact time of day pickup or return happens.

Pickup and return both happen around 8:00 AM. The rental period is built around overnight use — pick up your item in the morning, use it that evening and overnight, and have it back by 8:00 AM on your return date.

Returning on time matters — a late return can delay pickup for the next person's approved request. Please have your item back by 8:00 AM on your return date out of respect for the next renter.

4. Pricing & Payment

Daily rates are shown per item once you're logged in. Payment is currently arranged directly with an admin at or before pickup — the website does not process payments online yet.

5. Security Deposit

Items require a refundable security deposit equal to 50% of the item's daily rate — this amount is fixed and does not increase for longer rentals.

The deposit is collected separately from the rental fee and refunded after the item is returned on time, undamaged, and with all original accessories. It may be withheld, in full or in part, to cover a late return, damage beyond normal wear and tear, or missing accessories.

6. Cancellations

You can cancel a pending or approved request at no cost anytime before your start date — just contact us.

A no-show is decided on your start date itself: if you don't pick up your item that day, it's treated as a no-show. If you know ahead of time that you can't make the original pickup but still want to go ahead with some or all of your dates, contact us before your start date — we may be able to work something out, at our discretion.

A late cancellation (made on your start date itself) and a no-show are treated the same way: if you've already paid, your deposit is forfeited, and either counts as a strike against your account — see Account Standing below.

7. Damage, Loss & Liability

You're responsible for the item from pickup until it's returned and inspected. Please use it only for its intended purpose and handle it carefully. If an item is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair, you're responsible for its replacement cost — the deposit is a partial safeguard, not a cap.

8. Memory Cards (Cameras)

Memory cards that come with a rented item — SD cards in cameras — are cleared before being handed to the next renter. We don't keep copies, and we don't look through what's on them beyond what's needed to clear them.

Back up any photos or footage you want to keep before you return a camera. Once it's back with us, its memory card is formatted, and nothing on it can be recovered after that.

9. Gaming Device Accounts

Gaming devices (Switch, DS Lite, DSi, Quest 3S) work differently — they come pre-loaded with games and software under an account Rentl provides, and that stays on the device between renters, so you can play without buying your own copies. We don't reset these devices the way we do memory cards, because that would wipe the games too.

If you sign into your own personal account on a rented device — for online play, friends, or your own save data — you're responsible for signing back out and removing it before you return the device. We don't check for or clear personal accounts on gaming devices, so anything left signed in could be seen or used by the next renter.

If a device is ever handed to you with a previous renter's personal account still signed in, please don't use it — sign them out and let us know.

10. School & Home Rules

Renting through Rentl doesn't override any rules your school or household has about bringing in, using, or storing equipment. Check with a teacher, coach, administrator, or your parent/guardian first if you're not sure whether those rules apply to a rented item.

Rentl has no way to know about or enforce your school's or family's rules, and isn't liable for any consequences — confiscation, disciplinary action, or otherwise — that result from using a rented item in a way that violates them.

11. Prohibited Use

  • Sublet, re-rent, or lend the item to someone else
  • Use the item for any unlawful purpose
  • Modify, disassemble, or attempt to repair the item yourself

12. Account Standing

No-shows, late cancellations, late returns, damage, and other policy violations count as strikes against your account:

  • 1st strike: a warning.
  • 2nd strike: a 30-day suspension from making new rental requests.
  • 3rd strike: your account is permanently banned from the platform.

13. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated at any time. Continued use of the platform after a change means you accept the updated policy.
