Why You'll Love It
A reproduction of the Game Boy Color — the same shape, the same cartridge slot, the same 2x AA batteries — with the one thing Nintendo never put in the original: a bright, backlit screen. It's made by KongFeng, not Nintendo, and it plays your real Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.
Imagine this: you dig your old Pokémon Crystal cartridge out of a drawer, drop it in, and for the first time you can actually see it — on the couch, at night, no lamp to angle it toward, no window to chase.
A Backlit Screen at Last. The original Game Boy Color's screen was reflective — you needed a bright light and the right angle to see anything. This one is evenly backlit and genuinely bright, which is the whole reason hobbyists reach for it over an unmodified original.
Plays Your Real Cartridges. Original Game Boy (the grey brick) and Game Boy Color games both work — compatibility is around 99%. A handful of titles show a minor graphical glitch; the vast majority run exactly as they should. Bring your own carts — there are none included with the rental for now.
66 Games Built In. Turn it on with no cartridge and there's a library of colorized Game Boy classics on board — Contra, Super Mario Land, DuckTales, Tetris and more — enough to carry a trip or a slow afternoon without bringing anything else.
Batteries Included, and Good Ones. It ships with a pair of high-capacity AA rechargeables, fully charged and ready to go. If you do run them down, it takes standard AA: swap in a fresh pair from any shop, no proprietary charger, no dead-battery panic on a long bus ride.
Headphone Jack and Speaker. A normal 3.5mm jack on the bottom, no adapter, plus a built-in speaker with clean, crisp sound.
Familiar in the Hand. Roughly Game Boy Color size and shape, with a GBC-style D-pad and face buttons — it plays like the handheld you remember, just easier to see.
